In 2023, Eszterházy Károly Catholic University revitalized our annual conference for professionals in viticulture, winemaking, and estate management, a history spanning over two decades. Mark your calenders for 2025, as the Eger Wine Meetup returns.

As the organizing institution of the conference, Eszterházy Károly Catholic University considers it essential, beyond education, to stay informed about trends affecting the sector and to participate in research programmes realized through international collaborations. Magyarországon ma több száz első és másodgenerációs borászat működik. Az alapítóik bátran kezdtek munkához: ültetvényeket telepítettek, pincéket építettek, borkategóriákat alkottak. Már nekik is, de a következő generációnak mindenképpen rá kellett döbbenni arra, hogy egy jól működő, sikeres birtok felépítése és folyamatos fejlesztése komplex folyamat, ami a szőlőművelésre, borkészítésre vonatkozó tudáson túl további képességeket is követel egy vezetőtől.

The quality of wine is determined by the grapes. This statement becomes even more significant as the value of wine increases. In changing climatic conditions, we must strive to create the best possible environment for our vines, and the path to achieving this lies in understanding them as thoroughly as possible.

The two-day conference will be hosted in the main building of the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, the Lyceum, which was built in the second half of the 18th century by the eponym of the institution.

Tip: if you have some free time, you should visit the Observatory and Science Experience Centre in the Lyceum building. Partly for the wonderful views from the terrace, but mostly for the camera obscura on the top floor.

TRAIN

There is a direct train to Eger every hour from Budapest Keleti Railway Station, but it is also easily accessible by rail from larger cities and county towns.

BUS

There is a direct bus service to Eger from Budapest Stadion bus station, but it is also easily accessible by bus from larger cities and county capitals.

CAR

Eger can be easily reached by car from the M3 motorway to Füzesabony and from there on the main road No. 25. Parking is limited near the event venue, it is recommended to walk in the centre of Eger.
